How This Chaeto Reactor Works

This Tunze macroalgae reactor uses an external lighting solution: two Eco Chic Refugium lights that can operate fully underwater. To make the most of that light, water entering the reactor creates a spinning effect that keeps the chaeto circulating inside the chamber, so more of the algae is exposed as it turns. As the chaeto grows, it consumes nitrate and phosphate from your aquarium water, and each harvest removes those nutrients from the system for good.

Easy Maintenance

Maintenance is one of the biggest drawbacks of most algae reactors. Tunze addressed this with an easy-to-remove lid held on by large thumbscrews. Removing the cap, harvesting the algae, and replacing the lid takes only about a minute.
