Aqua Illumination describes the AI Hydra Edge as a new generation of reef lighting: the punch and shimmer of point source LEDs paired with the smooth, even spread of a panel. Its slim form factor is designed to reduce heat output and extend component life.
Key Features of the Hydra Edge 44HD
Easy app control with MyAI, Mobius, and Apex Fusion (via MXM)
Solar Ring for controllable shimmer and caustics
100-degree optic spread for even coverage
EdgeField Optics for smooth color mixing and minimal shadowing
Solar Blue spectrum tuned for shallow reef lighting
Dedicated moonlight channel with a 2300K LED
HyperDrive technology for maximum output control
Coverage, Optics, and Shimmer
The 100-degree optic spread covers up to a 30" x 30" area with even light distribution, minimal shadowing, and consistent PAR. EdgeField Optics, adapted from the AI Blade series, direct light through a custom-designed opaque medium for uniform illumination around complex aquascapes, capturing and redirecting light that would otherwise be lost.
At the center of the fixture, the Solar Ring is a cluster of white and warm white LEDs that produces adjustable shimmer and caustics, mimicking natural sunlight.
Spectrum and Output Control
AI developed the Solar Blue spectrum to simulate natural shallow reef lighting while giving you control over the blue-to-white balance, with the goal of enhancing coral fluorescence and supporting healthy growth. The 2300K moonlight channel runs independently, so you can simulate lunar cycles and watch nocturnal reef activity.
HyperDrive (HD) technology lets you redirect unused power from one LED channel to another, so your preferred spectrum can run at its peak without exceeding the fixture's power limits. The on-fixture button cycles intensity in 20% increments when unprogrammed, performs a factory reset when needed, and keeps that simple functionality after app programming.
Mounting Options
Rear Tilt Mount: attaches to the HMS Single Arm Kit for precise angle adjustments
Top Tilt Mount: secures to the HMS Rail for flexible positioning
Hanging Kit: suspends the light from your ceiling or brackets
All mounting options require the C-Bracket for the Hydra Edge series and are compatible with HMS Single, Multi, and Hanging hardware, including the HMS Flex Arm.
