HYDROS Salinity Probe and Calibration Guide

The HYDROS Salinity Kit provides the probe and reference solutions needed to monitor conductivity in a marine aquarium. The kit includes a high-range K=10 conductivity probe, 28 ppt calibration solution and 35 ppt calibration solution for a two-point calibration.

What is included

• High-range conductivity probe with BNC connection and 3-foot cable.
• 100 mL of 28 ppt calibration solution.
• 100 mL of 35 ppt calibration solution.

The probe has a stated 20–2000 mS/cm range and 0–80°C operating range. Connect it only to a compatible salinity or conductivity input. Check the HYDROS controller manual before purchase because a Sense Port alone is not a BNC conductivity input.

How to calibrate the HYDROS salinity probe

1. Rinse the probe with clean water and gently remove excess droplets without rubbing the sensing surfaces.
2. Connect the BNC fitting to the compatible meter or controller and follow that device's calibration mode.
3. Use both included reference solutions for the two-point calibration, following the controller's prompted order.
4. Rinse between solutions to avoid cross-contamination, then verify the reading before placing the probe in service.

Recalibrate when readings drift, after cleaning, after long storage or whenever a known reference solution does not read correctly. Never calibrate against mixed aquarium water because its true conductivity is not independently known.

Reducing electrical interference

Conductivity measurements can be affected by electrical interference from nearby aquarium equipment. The HYDROS iV isolated testing vessel physically separates the sample while it is measured and is recommended when stable, repeatable readings are required.

Understanding the result

Salinity may be displayed as ppt, conductivity or converted specific gravity depending on the connected controller. Use one measurement method consistently, compare against a trusted reference and follow the requirements of the livestock in the aquarium rather than relying on a single universal target.
