By using various media to filter the water in your aquarium, you can remove the toxins, phosphates, and pigments that aquatic life and other aquarium occupants create. In addition to threatening the health of the fish and corals, these accumulated toxins also give the aquarium water an unpleasant yellow hue and encourage the growth of algae if they aren't properly controlled.
